About the cartridge

Development and History of the Cartridge:
The 9×21mm cartridge was originally created in Italy as a civilian alternative to the military-designated 9×19. Its designers extended the 9×19 case to 21.15mm and seated the bullet deeper, keeping the overall length almost identical. This design allowed firearm manufacturers to offer pistols with the same performance characteristics as 9×19 while complying with local laws that prohibited ownership of “military calibers.”

During the 1980s, Israel Military Industries (IMI) adopted the cartridge and introduced it to the Italian market in pistols and the Uzi Defender. From that point on, 9×21 IMI grew rapidly, eventually becoming the dominant civilian pistol caliber in Italy and gaining popularity in other countries with similar restrictions.

The cartridge maintains ballistic performance very close to 9×19, offering good accuracy, reliable feeding even in double-stack magazines, and manageable recoil. For competition shooters, especially in IPSC, its rimless design provides excellent reliability in high-capacity magazines. Today, the 9×21 is produced by numerous ammunition manufacturers and remains a common caliber in civilian markets and sport shooting disciplines.

The 9×21 IMI will appeal to enthusiasts of modern civilian pistols, sport shooters, collectors, and anyone interested in unique cartridge variants developed due to firearm legislation quirks. It is especially appreciated in countries where 9×19 Parabellum is restricted for civilian use.

Examples of Compatible Weapons:
Many pistols chambered originally for 9×19 have been produced in 9×21 versions, including models from Beretta, Tanfoglio, CZ (Italian market variants), IMI, and numerous IPSC competition pistols.

Keychain Construction and Care:
The keychain loop is lathe-turned from brass and firmly pressed into the base of the casing at the primer position, ensuring complete waterproofness. This construction makes our keychains more durable than common glued alternatives.

Brass components can be polished using a brass care product such as Sidol.
