About the cartridge

Development and History of the Cartridge: Designed in 1902 by the German company Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) for their new army pistol Luger P 08, created by Georg Luger. This cartridge was a high-performance version of the older 7.65 mm Luger cartridge. In 1904, the pistol and cartridge were introduced to the German navy, and in 1908 to the entire German army. Its excellent performance quickly garnered international interest, leading to widespread adoption worldwide. Its power, rate of fire, and reliability significantly contributed to the rise of semi-automatic pistols over revolvers.

The 9x19 cartridge is now produced by many manufacturers and is the standard pistol caliber for NATO and other world armies. It is also commonly used in rifles designed for pistol cartridges and has been the dominant ammunition for submachine guns since World War II. The 9x19 has good ballistic properties, acceptable size, and manageable recoil, even in smaller pistols for concealed carry. Its widespread availability is an advantage, though it has a relatively narrow wound channel and limited stopping power.

The name "Parabellum" is derived from the Latin "Si vis pacem, para bellum" ("If you seek peace, prepare for war"), the motto of DWM. This motto reflects the importance of this cartridge in the context of war.
