The 9mm Browning Long, also known as 9×20mmSR, is a historical pistol cartridge developed in the early 20th century for military semi-automatic pistols.
About the cartridge
Development and History of the Cartridge:
The 9mm Browning Long cartridge was designed in 1903 by the famous firearms designer John Moses Browning for the Belgian arms manufacturer Fabrique Nationale (FN). It was developed specifically for the FN Model 1903 pistol, which operated using a simple blowback system.
The cartridge was adopted by several European countries including Belgium, Sweden, the Netherlands, France and Estonia. In Sweden it became the service cartridge for the Husqvarna m/1907 pistol, a licensed version of the FN 1903.
The cartridge is similar in caliber to the better-known 9×19mm Parabellum, but it uses a longer semi-rimmed case and headspaces on the rim. This design allowed it to function reliably in pistols with a simple blowback mechanism without the need for a more complex locked breech system.
During the first half of the 20th century the cartridge was manufactured in several countries including Belgium, France, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States, and it even saw production in Germany during World War I for the Ottoman Empire.
Today the 9mm Browning Long is considered an obsolete or historical cartridge, largely replaced by more modern pistol calibers such as the 9mm Parabellum. Despite this, it remains an interesting part of early semi-automatic pistol development and firearms history.
Who Will Appreciate the Cartridge?
This keychain is especially appreciated by collectors, firearms history enthusiasts and fans of early 20th century military pistols. The combination of a brass casing and nickel-plated bullet also gives it a unique and visually striking look.
Examples of Compatible Weapons:
The most iconic weapons chambered for this cartridge include FN Model 1903 and Husqvarna m/1907, as well as other pistols based on the same Browning design.
Keychain Construction and Care:
The keychain loop is lathe-turned from brass and firmly pressed into the base of the casing at the primer position, ensuring its waterproofness and distinguishing it from many competing products of a similar type.
Brass parts can be polished with a brass surface treatment product such as Sidol.
