About the 7.62×39 Cartridge

Development of the Cartridge

The 7.62×39 mm cartridge was developed in 1943 by Soviet designers N. M. Elizarov and B. V. Semin. First introduced with the SKS rifle and later made famous worldwide by the AK-47, it became one of the most influential and widely distributed rifle cartridges in history.

Its moderate recoil, reliable terminal performance and extremely low production cost made it a staple across the entire Eastern Bloc. Millions of rounds were produced in lacquered steel casings to conserve brass — a hallmark of Soviet manufacturing. The cartridge became a defining element of Cold War conflicts and remains in use today across dozens of armed forces, militias and civilian shooters.

Although later replaced by the smaller 5.45×39 in Russian service, the 7.62×39 continues to be one of the most popular centerfire rifle cartridges in the world. In former Czechoslovakia it was designated vz. 43, deeply tied to local military history.

Construction and Care

The pendant’s loop is precision-turned from brass and firmly pressed into the base of the cartridge at the primer pocket, ensuring complete waterproofing and far superior durability compared to glued pendants.

The casing is made from original military steel, then professionally nickel-plated by us. Nickel provides excellent shine and scratch resistance. Clean with a soft polishing cloth or metal cleaner suitable for nickel surfaces.
