About the cartridge

Development and History of the Cartridge:
The 7.62×39mm cartridge was developed in 1943 by Soviet designers N. M. Elizarov and B. V. Semin. Originally introduced with the SKS rifle, it reached global fame through the AK-47, becoming one of the most widespread and recognizable rifle cartridges in the world. Its combination of moderate recoil, reliable energy, and extremely low production cost made it the backbone of the Soviet and Warsaw Pact infantry.

The cartridge was intended as a universal intermediate round for rifles, carbines, and light machine guns such as the RPK and RPD. Its steel-cased, lacquer-coated construction allowed the USSR to produce it in enormous quantities while conserving valuable metals like brass. This mass production contributed greatly to its worldwide dominance.

Although later replaced by 5.45×39 in Soviet service, the 7.62×39 remains extremely popular today in civilian shooting, hunting, and sport, and it still serves in countless military and paramilitary forces around the world.

Keychain Construction and Care:
The keychain loop is lathe-turned from brass and firmly pressed into the base of the casing at the primer pocket, ensuring complete waterproofness. This makes our construction significantly more durable than common glued designs.

The casing is steel with a nickel-plated finish applied by us. Nickel offers excellent durability and a bright, reflective appearance. To maintain the shine, simply wipe with a metal polish suitable for nickel surfaces.
