About the .445 SuperMag Cartridge

Development of the Cartridge

The .445 SuperMag was introduced in 1986 as an extended and much more powerful version of the well-known .44 Remington Magnum. It was designed for silhouette shooting, long-range handgun disciplines, and hunting situations where higher energy and flatter trajectories were needed. Thanks to its longer brass case and increased operating pressures, the .445 SuperMag can push heavy 300-grain bullets to significantly higher velocities than traditional .44 Magnum loads.

Although production of some revolvers in this caliber — such as the iconic Dan Wesson large-frame models — has slowed over the years, the cartridge has never disappeared. Specialty manufacturers still produce ammunition, and high-quality brass (e.g., Starline) remains widely available for reloaders. Firearms chambered for .445 SuperMag can also shoot the shorter .44 Magnum, .44 Special, and .44 Russian, offering remarkable versatility.

Construction and Care

The pendant’s loop is precision-turned from brass and firmly pressed into the base of the casing at the original primer pocket. This ensures full waterproofing and exceptional durability — far superior to common glued pendant designs.

Brass components can be polished with a brass-care product such as Sidol.
If the surface is patinated, toned, or coated, simply follow the care guidelines suitable for that finish to maintain its longevity.
