Development of the cartridge:

The .223 Remington cartridge evolved from the renowned 7.62x51mm NATO round, designed for intermediate power. It was officially introduced to the US Army during the 1960s and 1970s when the AR-15 rifle, later known as the M16, was adopted. In 1977, NATO standardized this cartridge alongside the original 7.62x51mm. The civilian version, known as the .223 Remington, is dimensionally identical to the military 5.56x45mm NATO round, though the latter is loaded to higher pressure.

Keychain construction and care:

The keychain's pendant is turned from brass and securely embedded in the base of the cartridge in the primer area, ensuring the pendant's waterproofness and distinguishing it from most competing products. Brass parts can be polished using a brass surface renewal.
