Development of the cartridge:
The .22 Hornet, also known as 5.6×36mmR, was developed in the United States during the 1920s by Townsend Whelen and G. L. Wotkyns. It was officially introduced by Winchester in 1930 as one of the first small-caliber centerfire cartridges. The .22 Hornet bridged the gap between rimfire rounds like the .22 WMR and more powerful centerfire cartridges such as the .223 Remington.
It quickly gained popularity among hunters and marksmen for its high velocity, mild recoil, and impressive accuracy. During World War II, the U.S. military even adopted the .22 Hornet for aircrew survival rifles such as the M4 and M6, intended for hunting small game in emergency situations.
Over the years, several improved variants like the .22 K-Hornet and Ackley Improved Hornet were developed to increase power and efficiency while retaining the original compact design.

Keychain construction and care:
The keychain’s pendant is turned from brass and securely embedded in the base of the cartridge in the primer area, ensuring full waterproofness and distinguishing it from most competing products. Brass parts can be polished using a brass surface cleaner to restore shine and luster.
